Mufasa

Today we Celebrate Mufasa’s PAWS, her cute “squirrel” tail, and her fierce green eyes. Mufasa, also known as “Mu” and “Kitty” is two-years-old and lives in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. She was found as a kitten inside a barn and was rescued by her forever family. She may be tiny, but she's ferocious when attempting to tackle the laser pointer.  During the day, you will almost always find her by the windowsill trying to catch the bugs outside. Her nighttime routine is always the same as she impatiently waits for her treats with her dog-brother, Duke, and then snuggles into bed with her adopted mom.
Today we Celebrate Mufasa’s PAWS and all the wonderful PAW-rents
who bring animals into their homes.⠀

Today we Celebrate Nala’s PAWS (or little white socks). Just look at those beautiful eyes and her little smirk! She was found as a kitten at a summer camp in Pennsylvania and she needed a home. Nala’s mom says she is SO LOVABLE, beautiful, and soft. She’s always lying against you, on you, or touching you. She’s like a person, and she comes whenever you call her. Her tail reminds you of a Dr. Seuss character – always straight up in                the air with that white tip. Even people who don’t like cats, like Nala!
Today we Celebrate Nala’s PAWS and all the great PAW-rents out there who
welcome abandoned animals into their homes and hearts.

Today we Celebrate Duke’s PAWS, his dashing good looks, and his big, brown puppy-dog eyes. Duke lives in Pottstown, Pennsylvania and is currently five-years-old. As seen by his after-bath towel picture, Duke is happiest when he is snuggled up. He loves nothing more than snuggling on his human brother’s lap and being the biggest lap dog that anyone has ever seen. When he is not snuggling, he is typically sleeping in his recliner or pestering his adopted mom for her attention. Duke truly loves his home and his family as he works hard to chase away all the evil delivery men and women that dare step foot on his property.
At the end of the day, however, he is the most lovable goof that there is.
Today we Celebrate Duke’s PAWS and all of the families that
treat animals the way they deserve to be treated.

Today we Celebrate Chessie’s PAWS, his bright blue eyes, and not to mention, how adorable he looks in his PAWS bandana! Chessie lives in Minersville, Pennsylvania, and by October he’ll be 14-years-old. His favorite spot is sitting out on the porch (like in his picture!) sunbathing and watching the people and cars on the street. However, at precisely 4 p.m. you’ll find him in the kitchen eagerly waiting for his favorite treats. We also celebrate his parents, Nancy and Joe, who found and rescued Chessie at 3-weeks-old by the Chesapeake Bay, which is why they named him Chessie, short for Chesapeake.
Today we Celebrate Chessie’s PAWS and all the great PAW-rents out there who welcome abandoned animals into their homes and hearts.

Today we Celebrate Roscoe's PAWS, his floppy ears, and how could we forget his firefighter pajamas (how cute is that onesie?)!
Roscoe, also known as "Little Man," lives in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. His favorite pastime is being his mom's shadow, in turn making her trip constantly. You can tell how much Roscoe is loved and adored (by mom and Grammy!) because he has the cutest clothes and is always up-to-date on the latest fashions. His mom mentioned that dressing up isn't his favorite; however, he's willing to play along, at least for the pictures.
Join us in celebrating Roscoe and all the PAWrents out there who love their fur babies!

Today we Celebrate Leonardo DiCatprio’s PAWS (and his cool name!) Leo, from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, is clearly photogenic, as he seems comfortable with a red carpet pose, just like his namesake. He’s super cuddly, always down to play (especially when it’s with his favorite dragon fly toy), and he never fails to miss a meal!
We also celebrate his mom because she rescued Leo from a shelter and just loves him so much. She instantly lights up with a smile at the mere mention of his name.
Today we Celebrate Leo and all of the great fur parents out there
who give Shelter PAWS a loving home!

Bella is from Palm Harbor, Florida, and she's a true beach girl
who loves to frolic in the ocean.
Bella was rescued from a shelter by her parents, and had a rough life before they came along. Since then, she has been showered with nothing but love and fun adventures traveling coast to coast as the co-pilot with her dad.
Bella soaks up every happy minute of her life, and shows her mom and dad how much
she loves them every day with her most joyful tail wags and smiling eyes.
Today we Celebrate Bella and all of the wonderful people who

She loves to go for walks with her mom in their enclosed yard, and loves to play fetch.
She loves to cuddle and watch TV.
Her story is a happy ending!

How to be a litter box training pro

Teaching a cat to use the litter box is very different from house training a dog. “Cats are naturally inclined to eliminate waste by pawing through a sand-like substance in a private location.” Most problems people experience when litter training a cat are caused by human-error.

Here are some reasons why your cat might be avoiding its litter box:
  1. You may have chosen the wrong type of litter. Scented litter and different types of coarseness may deter your cat from using the box.
  2. Your house may not have enough litter boxes to satisfy your cats. If you have multiple cats, consider having more than one litter box. It might even be helpful to stagger the boxes throughout your house.
  3. Make sure you’re properly cleaning each litter box frequently as most cats do not like to use dirty boxes.
  4. The litter box may not be in the right location. Your cat will let you know if they don’t like its current location.

Wherever you choose to put the litter box (or multiple boxes), be sure it can be reached easily and quickly. You may want the box out of sight (and smell); however, your cat needs to be able to access it. The best place for a litter box is a “clean, quiet, and low-traffic area where the cat feels it has privacy.”

“In order to fit into and be accepted by society, dogs are expected to behave in a certain way.” Training your dog might not be easy, but it’s certainly necessary. In order to successfully train your dog, it’s important for you to figure out how a dog thinks and acts. Get to know their “normal.” Dogs are people-pleasers, so be clear with commands so they know what you are asking so they can react accordingly. It’s imperative to have the right mix of rewards, commands, and body language.

Whether you just brought home a new puppy or saved a dog from a local rescue, training should start immediately. If you let them get away with bad behavior initially, they may begin to think it’s acceptable, making it harder to train them later on. For example, if you allow a new puppy to sleep in your room for the first few nights because he is crying, containing him to a room later on in life will only cause a night full of barking. Create ground rules and stick to them!

The training process will take patience and a quiet room for concentration to ensure a strong and healthy bond.

A clean pet is a happy pet

12/27/2017

Grooming isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. If you neglect to groom your pet on a regular basis, serious side effects can occur, leading to expensive vet bills and possible behavioral problems. Make sure to address the following issues to keep your pet happy and healthy.

  • When long hair is not brushed and/or washed regularly, pets can suffer from serious matting and extra weight from excess hair. The excess hair could cause double coating, leading to the possibility of heat stress.
  • Severe hair matting can be painful and cause serious skin conditions that could restrict proper body movement, leading to deformity.
  • Overgrown nails can be very painful, sometimes growing into the paw pads and triggering infections.
  • Undetected grass seeds can cause abscesses and severe infections. It could even lead to your pet losing an eye.
  • Fleas, ticks, and mites are the most common parasites that could be fatal to your pet. They love dirty and untreated bodies.
  • Bad breath, teeth loss, reduced appetite, and possible organ damage are just a few problems associated with dental disease.

Be sure to stay on top of your pet’s grooming schedule. Aside from them looking and smelling nice, your pet’s physical and mental well-being will thank you.
